December Graduations

December in Nicaragua is an exciting time of year.  Not just because it is the month when we celebrate Christmas, but it is also the end of the school year.  The Nicaraguan school year starts in February and ends the last week of November with graduations and promotions extending into the first couple of weeks in December.

This year we had the pleasure of celebrating the second 6th grade promotion at our Accelerated Elementary School.  This year six young ladies passed the 6th grade.  Luz Marina, Deysi, Maura, Jenni, Ana Sofia, and Ana Guissel graduated from our program.  It was a fun day as we celebrated this special ceremony.

After the ceremony everyone passed to one of the classrooms at the Bible Institute for refreshments and to see many of the projects the young ladies in the home have been working on in their pre-vocational classes.  We are so proud of them and all of the progress that they have made during the year.

During this time we also had the joy of attending Nora Ligia’s high school graduation.  Many who have traveled to Nicaragua and visited the Home of Protection have met Nora.  This year we invited Nora to live in our personal home with her little boy, Ivan.  It has been a year of adjustment for her as she has had to get used to living and eating with North Americans.  We enrolled her in a Christian school located in Diriamba that was closer to our house, and while it was a struggle for her starting over in a new school, she did very well and finished as one of the top students in her class.

We are very proud of her and the accomplishments that she has made during this year.  She will be spending her vacation time preparing for college entrance exams as she plans on starting dentistry school in March of 2012.
