March Babies

Last year we saw many of our young ladies with babies leave the Home and return to their families.  By the end of the year we had just 2 little ones.  This year we are seeing babies once again.  In late March, two babies were born to girls in the Home.  Their mothers are just ten and eleven years-old.  The stories are incredibly sad and the pregnancies were very “high-risk”, but thanks to God’s hand of protection, both mothers and their babies are healthy and well.

It has been quite an adjustment for the two girls as they care for their babies.  Our ladies are doing the majority of the care while the girls help out when they can.  It is a patient process as we wait to see what decision the Ministry of Families will take with regard to the babies and their mothers.

Please pray for these little girls and their babies.  We ask for God’s will to be done in this situation for both mothers and babies.

Well Project

After three years of preparation and hard work, we are finally drilling a well on the property of the Bible Institute to provide water for the Institute and for the Home of Protection.

The well project is being funded by Rotary International through the hard work of Pat Alonzo and many others who have helped raise funds through their local Rotary clubs.  This will be a great blessing as we will have access to plenty of good water even during the dry season.

The well was an expensive project because of the depth of the water table here in Diriamba.  They reached water at 605 feet and continued drilling until they reached a depth of 850 feet.  This depth makes the cost very high.

The well has been drilled and we are just waiting on the casing and the installation of the pump and motor.  We will also be putting up a tank on a tower on the side of the road in front of the Bible Institute where people from the surrounding community can come to obtain free water when needed.

New Wing Construction

In 2012, as the Home began to fill up, it became very apparent that we needed more space.  Jim Wallace, a good friend and a board member with Nicaragua Christian Outreach asked what he could do to help with the overcrowding and so the idea of buidling a new wing was born.  By the end of 2012, the funds were raised with the help of private individuals and the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home foundation.  What a blessing.

In February of 2013, the construction began on the new wing.  The new wing will include 6 more bedrooms with room for 6 girls in each bedroom a study area and a much needed storage room.  The exterior walls on the building were completed by a Nicaraguan crew and the roof and interior are to finished out throughout the summer by work teams from the US.

We are excited about having the new space and how the Lord will use it to be able to reach even more young ladies in need.
